West Barr Caravan Park

The Loch Ryan Oyster Company

Loch Ryan has been producing some of the finest Native Oysters (Ostrea edulis) for many years. In 1701 King William III gave the bed to the Wallace family, and it has been in the family ever since. The crew in Loch Ryan fish from a 12m fishing boat, the “Vital Spark” and harvest about 400,000 oysters per season. The main focus has been to relay stock, and on average 95% of the catch is reseeded for future years.
